Local Community Group

This site was a rebuild for a community association, who had lost their previous site. With budgets limited, we reevaluated what was really necessary for them on the site and which platform would suit them better. We decided to rebuild in Six, when originally it had been in WordPress, enabling all members of the committee to easily make updates and simplify the transition from one management team to the next at the upcoming election.

"Emma has created a fresh new look for our website to support the launch of our new Committee, working with us to develop a user-friendly site which will enable us to promote our reach to the Community we serve and encourage a diverse range of users to easily contribute their own news and event items." - Suzanne Featherstone

The main purposes of the committee is to put on events for the community and to signpost people to relevant organisations and information . I therefore created a dedicated events page split into 2 sections, one for the events that the association is putting on where they can go into lots of detail and another for local events put on by others, where they perhaps don’t have as much information.

Taking money is a little complex and so to simplify it, on this site we have embedded an Eventbrite ticketing form, so they can have all the information for visitor to the site but not have to worry about managing the ticketing and payments within their own site. Embedding information from other sites can be a great way of having the functionality needed, without the coding or tech knowledge that might be needed if it was created on your own site.

I’ve added in a concertina information area to this site to make an A-Z of everything that the community may need to know or be signposted towards. These systems can be used for lots of things where people may need to search through to find the information they are looking for. In this case I used its as an A-Z but perhaps an FAQ section would be better for another site.
